Whine and Dine, Aug 14

August 13, 2012

About the road rides

The plan is for three options, all will be social, all climb hills. Tweener M option will do some easy sixes, and may try some harder fives at an M pace. QS option may do very challenging hills at a quicker M to MB pace. The Mellow LM option will not do anything steeper than a four.

Mellow LM riders are expected to ride together at the pace of the slowest rider on the Mellow LM ride with all riders being rested at regroups.

Route sheets provided on-line, on the blog, and a few on the ride. Meet at Summit Bikes, Main Street in Los Gatos, across the street from the Los Gatos Library. Rain or intense heat cancels. Burritos after. Be there around six-ish (I get off work at 5,) we roll around then. Typically another cyclist will lead the Quick Spinners option.

Please print a route sheet if you want one!

The Road Options

Whine and Dine Quick Spinners

Bohlman On Orbit <-Route Sheet Here
Whine and Dine, Quick Spinners, Bohlman On Orbit, featuring 19.4 miles and 2650 feet of climbing. This is a hard and very steep 6.

Whine and Dine Tweener M

Sanborn “Classic” Version <- Route Sheet Here
Sanborn, be prepared for serious climbing! This is a six, yes a six! This is the one six we do on the mellow ride. It is a very pretty ride and a good workout.

Whine and Dine Mellow LM

Mellow LM riders are expected to ride together at the pace of the slowest rider on the Mellow LM ride with all riders being rested at regroups.

Kennedy/Shannon with half or whole Hicks, Reynolds, Loma Almaden options <- Route Sheet Here
Cafeteria Style Ride; This mellow bike ride is cafeteria style. It has four options, ranges from Super Mellow to OMG. This ain’t no pansy ride! Mix-em, match-em or ride-em all if you dare.

Mountain Bike Ride

I expect to lead the MTB ride starting Aug 14 through the end of the season. – Tyler

The Bullwinkle Ride
The traditional first and last ride of the Whine and Dine season. This is also a short ride and is good for times when weather is an issue.

Be Green, Print Your Own Route Sheet (when they are available)

I am only printing a few route sheets to conserve paper. Riders are encouraged to print your own route sheets before the ride. This is the only way you can be sure to get a route sheet. I am tired of wasting so much paper.

About the Mellow Ride Routes

Tue 2010 Whine and Dine Mellow (aka Pansy) Ride
6:00 PM ish 12-20 mi, 3-6 (yes that is six) LM-M Billy Goats = Various!

My philosophy about this ride is that we have a short amount of time on Earth, so why not stop and smell the roses. Expect at several regroups and nobody (who can ride an LM pace) to be left behind. We will eventually do most of the goats in the Los Gatos area, just not too many at a time. Both rides are social. We will do some easy sixes, and may try some harder fives. Route sheets provided on-line on the blog and a few on the ride. Meet at Summit Bikes on Main Street in Los Gatos, across the street from the Los Gatos Library. Rain or intense heat cancels. Burritos after. Be there around six-ish (I get off work at 5,) we roll around then.

WnD Social Event Friday

June 2, 2009

Emily at First Friday

Downtown San Jose Party June 5th
According to the related Web site, Friday is SubZero. SubZero is billed as, “a diy, artistically bent, hi/lo-techno-mashup where street meets geek presented by ZER01 and South First Fridays.

From dusk ‘til midnight between San Carlos and Reed Street, you’ll find two stages of entertainment plus 100 artists, performers, and musicians celebrating the indie creative spirit.”

This an event associated with South FIRST FRIDAYS. First Fridays is an ecletic evening of Arts & Culture in downtown San Jose’s SoFA (South First Arts) district every First Friday of the month.

The SoFA District in San Jose is the growing art district South First Street between San Carlos and East Reed Streets. This area features galleries, cafes and the yoga studio. The gallaries will all be open and it is a lot of fun.

Meet at yoga at 5:00 p.m.
A great opportunity to try Yoga! We are starting at 5 p.m. with an optional super mellow Restorative Yoga class (cost $10) put on by Janya Wongsopa at Downtown Yoga Shala. Janya is a great Yoga teacher and this is a very mellow class. I recommend this as a great class for trying yoga for the first time. I plan to be there.

Or, meet at dinner and drinks at 7:00 p.m.
Dinner and drinks at Hawgs is at about 7. Hawg’s San Jose is close enough to be convenient and far enough away from SubZero to not be slammed by the event. If you can’t make Yoga, then meet up here. We can eat, have cocktails and then we can go to the street party. Hope you can make it!

Please RSVP so I can make appropriate reservations:

Century Riders

Saturday Century Ride a Success
The first ever Whine and Dine Century (100 mile bicycle ride) went from San Jose to the outskirts of Hollister. It had a metric (60 mile) option that some riders rode. By the time we got home from the dinner after the ride, it was almost dark.
