WnD Full Century: May 30, 2009

Map to ride start

Ride Rolls at 9 a.m.
We are doing the impromptu (no ride credit) Whine and Dine ACTC Full Century (100 mi 3 LM/M) tomorrow rolling at 9 a.m. (yes rolling at 9 a.m.) from the Park and Ride lot at Coleman and Winfield. You should plan to be there by 8:45 a.m. We do not plan to make a pee stop on the way out at Lake Almaden, so you should plan accordingly.

[The full century route sheet is here] <<<—Updated!

I have just put together this route and would appreciate folks looking at it. Please let me know if I made any mistakes. I have not done this ride in well over 5 years!

I am looking for suggestions for lunch stops in Gilroy! People should plan on riding SELF CONTAINED! We will stop to get gator aid and stuff as the opportunity presents itself but there WILL NOT be a SAG.

You are all welcome to come and give me comments on the route please.

As an alternative (Super Mellow?) there is an optional Metric Century that follows a similar but shorter route. This is the one to take if you have any time constraints!

[The metric century alternative route sheet is here]

NOTE: The route sheet(s) may change if I receive corrections before the ride that need to be applied to fix mistakes and/or to make ride safer.

Whine and Dine – QS Redwood Gulch and Quarry

May 27, 2009

Regretfully I will not be able to lead tonight’s ride.  My wife has been called out of town on a business trip in the last minute and my son has a science fair tonight that I can’t miss.

Steve, has posted the route sheet and Patrice is very familiar w/ the route (She will probably lead the ride if there).  Please someone print off the leaders sign in sheet and lead the ride for me.  I will gladly input the names and submit the ride – just drop me a note and I will come and get the sheet.

Sorry for the late notice on this. – If no one steps up to lead the ride you can always join the mellow rides.

Ted

PS see you next week

Jolyce on Memorial Day

Note to Whine and Diners:
The whine and dine rides were conceived from the very beginning as social rides. That is why they are not one ride but a series of rides and even a hike to appeal to a wide range of people. The idea is that people of various abilities, including new cyclists, can go and do social rides that interest them and then come together and socialize as a single group. These rides were never meant to be competitive. These rides will only work if riders share the road with respect for one another.

Last week the routes were such that the fast group ended up overtaking the slowest group from behind. There was a group of cyclists off the front of the fast ride that were riding in a style that seemed very aggressive, as though they were competing. These cyclists needlessly overtook the slower riders aggressively; passing very closely without so much as an “on your left” or any other warning.

Please practice courtesy on the road. If you do not know how to do that I suggest attending the ACTC academy to learn courtesy on the road or find other events more suited to competition behavior than the whine and dine rides.

~Steve

Whine and Dine QS – Senic Vista – 5/13

May 13, 2009

Hello Whine and Dine warriors,  tonight we have a WnD first (As far as I know), with the climb of Scenic Vista.  I am preparing for the Davis Double on Sat  and want some flat easy miles not to over do the legs.  But what would the ride be without a good climb.  Then it hit me – Via Santa Teresa/Scenic Vista a steep short climb.  I would like to keep a good group together to pace down Camden out and back.  We will flip flop Shannon and Kennedy and ride them in reverse order for a different look.  I hope to see you tonight.

Whine and Dine – QS – Mt Eden/Pierce 5/6/09

May 6, 2009

Hi all – Tonight we will stretch out the miles with a flat run out to Stevens Creek Reservoir through the maze. Then it is up Mt Eden and Pierce.  It is another favorite of the Whine and Dine.  There will be several rolling re-groups through the maze and we will regroup at the dam and on top of Mt Eden and Pierce. The route sheet is located here. http://tinyurl.com/wndqsmtedenpierce

Pace has been talked a lot about this last week on a few blogs – the QS ride will be led at an m/mb pace with several regroups to keep the group together.  You are welcome to ride faster than this pace but when you are off the front you are responsible for following the route and knowing where the re-groups are.  Different paces make the ride more interesting and it is always fun to be able to push yourself to go faster if you feel like it.  I will try to communicate where the regroups are to keep the rides running smoothly

I am looking forward to seeing you tonight.

Ted
