Tuesday WnD Plans; 5:30, Camden and Almaden Expwy.

Last September Hike and Ride, Sept. 30, 2008:

Tuesday we have something different in mind. The ride will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the southwest corner of Camden and Almaden Expressway. We have been meeting, at this location, in the parking lot near Camden not far from the gas station at the corner. We will ride down Camden to Harry and turn left on Harry and ride up “Bernal” then we will turn around and drop back down and come back via Henwood and Via Santa Teresa with an optional grind up Scenic View for the quick spinners. After that, we will ride back to the start point to enjoy superior Mexican Food, Beer and stealthy wine at Tacos Al Pastor. They have outside seating like Una Mas.

As this ride was not posted to the ACTC newsletter there is no ACTC ride credit (for those that care about such things.)

Whine and Dine Rides to Come!

Last night we had the first extended season ride. It was a great ride up Hicks to Reynolds then further up Hicks to the double diamond sign. The weather and scenery were perfect! The extended season is the period we call Indian Summer, early Fall after summer ends until the rain comes in, typically in mid to late October. The riding weather is typically great this time of year, but the rides have to start earlier due to the earlier sunsets. I cannot commit to doing this every week far in advance because of my work schedule, so these are not posted to the ACTC newsletter. There is no ACTC ride credit (for those who care.) In addition there are other Special Edition rides being offered.

Upcoming rides:

WnD Special Edition Ride Friday, 5:00 p.m. September 26
Hicks from the south side. Plan on meeting at 5:00 p.m. in San Jose at the corner of Camden Ave. and Almaden Expressway near the Tacos Al Pastor. It is a 17mile ride, a 5 LM. Superior Mexican food beer etc will follow the ride at Tacos Al Pastor. They have outside seating! Bring a sweatshirt or jacket for after.

WnD Extended Season Ride Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. September 30
Something totally different! Plan on meeting at 5:30 p.m. in San Jose at the corner of Camden Ave. and Almaden Expressway near the Tacos Al Pastor. More details will be coming. Superior Mexican food beer etc will follow the ride at Tacos Al Pastor. They have outside seating! Bring a sweatshirt or jacket for after.

Tuesday WnD Extended Season Ride

Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. is the first of the extended season rides (and possibly a hike.)

This is not posted to the newsletter so there will be no ACTC ride credit for this ride. This is a mellow 5 LM ride up Hicks and Reynolds. Let’s meet at the small parking lot at the corner on Camden Avenue and Coleman in San Jose at 5:30 p.m. (Park in the lot at your own risk!)

After the ride we will go to Tacos Al Pastor at Camden and Almaden Expressway for Superior Burritos, Beer and maybe some vino…

Special Edition WnD Ride: September 19

There will be a Friday Whine and Dine ride up Hicks from the south side. Plan on meeting at 5 p.m. at the corner of Camden and Almaden Expressway near the Tacos Al Pastor.

It is a 17mile ride, a 5 LM. Mexican food beer etc will follow the ride at Tacos Al Pastor. They have outside seating! Bring a sweatshirt or jacket for after.

Mellow Road Ride

Mellow Ride – Shannon/Kennedy and half Hicks, other half Hicks and/or Loma Almaden Optional
3LM, 17mi, (5 and 6 M optional)

This ride can be easy, or very hard, depending on how it is ridden. Today’s ride offers various paces and grades. The easier option offers Kenndy and Shannon (3) and the not too steep part of Hicks. If you want to do the hard options, you will need to shoot out of the gate to get all of Hicks in before dark. If that is not hard enough, very hard core riders choosing this ride may want to do all of Hicks (5) and maybe even Loma Almaden (6).

Note the route sheet lists the climb to the top of Hicks but this days ride mellow component turns around at (or before) the switchback before the hard climb starts. [Click here to see a photo of the "double diamond" sign at the turn around point.]

The rest of Hicks and Loma Almaden are “for credit” options. If you want to do the option(s) be prepared for a longer and a challenging ride. I am okay with you leaving early if you want to do this option. If you do, let me know you did. You may want to bring lights. This week you can be both studly and/or mellow! If you plan to be studly, please do it with a buddy!
